 SEAHAWKS 2014 SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!

I'm not a huge football fan, but I love the Seahawks!! For the 2013 - 2014 season, I watched every single game, including all the preseason games! It was so exciting to see my team winning game after game! Not only did they make it to the Superbowl, but they won, for the first time in Seahawks history!!

To celebrate, I did these two pyrography projects. They are really more of a wood painting than a burning, so they are a little different from the projects I have done so far.

I really had fun doing them and will probably be doing more this year!

Pyrography and Wood Burnings For Sale

The following projects are my earlier works. Every project I produce is one of a kind. These are not laser or stamps. I use patterns that I have purchased or made from sketches & photos, transferred by hand to the wood selected for the project. They are hand burned using a wood burning tool and hand painted using artist quality watercolor pencils.

Tawny Owl. Pyrography. Hand cut & sanded Alder wedge. 8 1/2" W x 2" D x 9 3/4" H. Finished with polyurethane front & back. This wedge is designed to sit on a flat surface such as a desk or shelf.

Red & Black Goldfish. Pyrography. Hand cut & sanded Mahogany craft plywood. 6 13/16" x 10 1/4". Finished front & back with polyurethane spray. Ships ready to hang in that perfect spot.

Tiger Head. Pyrography. Hand cut & sanded Mahogany craft plywood. This is a small piece  measuring only 7 7/8" x 6 1/2". It is finished with polyurethane spray. Ships ready to hang or display on a small easel for a desk or shelf.

Tall Ship & Lighthouse. Wood Burning. Hand cut & sanded Mahogany craft plywood. 11 1/2" x 6 7/8". It is finished with polyurethane spray. Ships ready to hang or display on a small easel for a desk or shelf. This is one of my personal favorites! I will have to do a larger one, maybe on a nice piece of Redwood?

Sea Turtle & Manta Ray. Wood Burning. Hand sanded white pine craft wood. 8"W x 4 1/2"H x 1"D. These are a set and are designed to sit on a flat surface side by side. However, you have the option to buy them separately.

Next posting,

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!!

GO SEAHAWKS!!

Wood Burning & Pyrography Donations

Mark & I belong to a kayak fishing club called Northwest kayak Anglers. (NWKA) We kayak and fish competitions all over Washington & Oregon. One of the highlights of the year is called "The Oregon Rockfish Classic" (ORC). For the last couple of years Mark has donated carvings for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes. This year I was asked to do the honor of providing the trophies. These next three projects is what I came up with.

"Spawning Salmon" This was my very first full project. Wood burning on a fir wedge. Hand cut & sanded smooth. Finished with polyurethane, front & back. I wasn't going to sell this because it was my first and it turned out so good. But Mark posted it on NWKA when he suggested that I do the trophies and it had such a huge response that I decided to donate it as 1st prize.

"ORC Cabezon on Rocks" Pyrography. I did this one specifically for ORC. I think it was one of my best pyros! The Cabby literally jumps off the wood! Hand cut & sanded, Birch wood. Finished with polyurethane spray. (The space at the top, between the ORC & plant was left open for a plaque)

"ORC Cabby Plaque" Pyrography. I had actually started a nice light cedar wedge with a Lingcod chasing some rockfish, but I caught a nasty sinus/ear infection and didn't get it finished in time. (I didn't even get to go to ORC!) So I donated this one instead. It is hand cut, sanded, burned & painted on a dark cedar plank.

Lori's Blog

February, 2014.  Once I decided to try wood burning & pyrography, I ordered a burning tool (basically a soldering iron with wood burning tips) and a learning book. Because of my electronics and oil painting background, applying these skills to burn and paint wood was a breeze for me.

After playing around with the iron and tips for a few minutes, I jumped right in and burned the first project in the learning book. A cattail. This took me all of maybe 15 minutes. It looks a bit rough but believe it or not, it turned out better than the one in the book! The book has a few patterns, I have not done any of them yet. More on patterns later.

February 14, 2014. The pyrography kit came with a few artist quality colored pencils so I decided to try them out right away too. These were just regular colored pencils so they didn't blend like I thought they would. However, it turned out beautifully for this rose, but I immediately ordered some high quality watercolor pencils!
(I didn't realize it was Valentine's Day when I did this rose. Kinda cool)

February 17, 2014. Football season was a blast this year! I watched EVERY game, including the pre-season! Our team not only made it to the Super Bowl, we actually won for the first time in Seahawks history! I decided to try this to celebrate. The logo turned out ok, but as you can see, burning text is a lot harder than it looks! Still, not to bad considering this is only my 3rd pyro project. I have since learned how to prepare the piece of wood before burning, as well as how to finish it after the burning & painting. I also make my own text patterns to transfer to the project (when needed).

Onward to the next project!

Mark started carving Cottonwood spirit guys about a year ago and soon advanced to chainsaw carving. Lori soon followed with wood burning & pyrography. It didn't take long for our yard and home walls to be covered in wood art!

We decided to create this blog to display and talk about projects that we are excited about. From there, it was an easy transition to add a PayPal button to the ones we want to sell.

It will take a little time to get this blog page the way we want it and post all the inventory we have. Soon we will add the new projects currently in work. Please check back often, new projects will be added daily until we are caught up.

We hope you will enjoy the art displayed here, thank-you for looking!
